Holistic Approach to Plastic Surgery

Stephen Lober Plastic Surgery is dedicated to providing our patients with quality results. We are committed to a process of holistic medicine paired with treatments that work together toward an overall practice of wellness. Reaching goals by steadily practicing the needed steps will always end with the best possible physical, mental, and emotional results.

Part of our holistic approach to plastic surgery includes procedures that ride the border between the two ideas. One such treatment that we are pleased to offer patients is microdermabrasion. What is microdermabrasion, and what are some microdermabrasion benefits you can expect? Let us break it down for you.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions. This procedure uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface (referred to as Diamond Tip) to gently sand away the outer layer of dead skin cells. It is the ultimate advancement in non-invasive, non-surgical skin conditioning. You will leave with your face feeling soft, smooth, and bright for $65/session (or add on to a facial for $30).

Exfoliation with Microdermabrasion

Basic exfoliation is the process of cleansing the pores and removing dead skin cells from the epidermis (the outermost layer of our skin). Exfoliation methods are generally broken down into two categories: chemical and mechanical (physical). Microdermabrasion is a form of mechanical or physical exfoliation.

Chemical exfoliation utilizes Alpha Hydroxy Acids(AHAs), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) or enzymes to loosen and remove dead skin cells. Depending on the skin condition, these treatments may be combined for even greater results.

Microdermabrasion is performed in our office by one of our licensed trained aestheticians with the entire procedure lasting around forty-five minutes to one hour.

Microdermabrasion Frequency

Weather, environment, and sunlight exposure can all affect our skin. The total number and frequency of treatments necessary to achieve ideal results will vary depending on the severity of the condition being treated. On average, to maintain a healthy glow and support the production of new, fresh skin cells, microdermabrasion treatments are recommended every four to six weeks. That amount of time can be different with each individual, so it’s best to consult with one of our professionals.

Microdermabrasion is not the sort of treatment that is designed to happen once and give you results for the rest of your life. Your skin cells are always changing and turning over, so this treatment must happen regularly enough to keep up with these skin cell regeneration cycles.

How long results last will depend on the condition of your skin and how often it is exposed to sunlight and other potentially damaging factors. The effects of the treatment typically last about a month, as most patients experience a turnover of new skin cells every 30-60 days, depending on age.
